Five Day Figure Painting Intensive Workshop – 5 spots left!
Dates: Wed April 15 – Sunday April 19, 2020
Time: 9:30am-4:30pm every day
Cost: $600 ($100 non-refundable deposit due on registration, balance due 7 days before workshop)
Location: Southminster United Church, 15 Aylmer Ave (Galt St entrance)
30 hours of class time
Max 11 people per class
This class is intended for serious beginners through advanced students.
This class will cover colour theory and palette control, value structures, brushwork and paint handling, and much more, all in the context of long pose figure painting. This class will not cover how to draw the figure, therefore some figure drawing experience will be helpful. Some painting experience would be helpful as well, although I am happy to work with students who are more experienced with a pencil than a paintbrush.
You will leave with a deeper understanding of:
- Colour theory and mixing
- How to develop solid colour relationships
- How to build & shape gradations in paint
- How to make your figures feel full and round, not flat and stiff
- How to combine knowledge of colour and value while handling the paint
- Techniques for long pose figure painting
This class is a combination of demonstration and practice time. During practice time, I will spend one-on-one time with each student, giving guidance, critique and support.
We will be completing exercises and a long pose painting. We will discuss both how to work directly (alla prima) and indirectly, building layers of paint.
Class sizes are small so that everyone will have one-on-one time with me by the end of the course.
Who these classes are for:
These classes are for the serious beginner to advanced artist. They are focused and intense and I will be sharing as much of my knowledge as I can in the 30 hours we have together. If you love Paint & Wine Night at your local bar, these classes are probably not your thing.
Who am I and what do I know?
I’m Sarah Marie Lacy, and I’m a full-time professional artist and portrait painter. I’ve studied with master artists in France, and have won international awards for my work, which makes me sound very fancy. I am deeply passionate about the work that I do and love sharing it with others and watching my students improve and progress.
What we don’t cover:
I won’t be spending a ton of time and energy on the materials side of things (grinding your own paints, pigments etc). The magic is not in the materials, and other artists will do a better job teaching that. This is about getting knowledge of artistic concepts in your hands so you can get to making the work you want to be making.
- An unlined notebook! I don’t do handouts because you won’t learn as much if I just tell you what to do. I want you to make notes of what I’m saying, copy the demos, draw along with me while I talk. You’ll learn so much more this way. (See the science behind it here.)
- Canvas and canvas paper
- Black masking tape (black is important!)
I’ll send out a full materials list after you register, with a suggest colour palette, suggested brush shapes and sizes, and recommendations for canvas. For canvas paper, masking tape, Gamsol and medium, you’ll be able to purchase those supplies directly from me at cost if that’s easier.
IMPORTANT: Payment & Refund Policies
Payment is non-refundable and non-transferable after April 7, 2020. The $100 deposit is non-refundable, but the balance of $500 is. This means that after this date, you cannot use this payment to pay for a course at a later date, and that your payment will not be refunded just because you cannot make a course that you signed up for. Think seriously about your ability to attend these classes.
Discounts will not be given for students who can only attend a portion of the classes.
If the class is cancelled due to a lack of registrants or other circumstances, your money will be refunded in its entirety and within 7 days of cancellation.
Email email@example.com and I’ll answer them!
Fill out the form below to register and let me know how you’d like to pay the $100 non-refundable deposit to hold your spot.
